Great stuff -- "Questionable Painting" and "older boys love street sponges" is particular.

I'm starting to notice that a lot of Goosebumps books are only tangentially related to their title[Note 1] -- how much did the sink even figure into this?

the title is a play on the film "It Came From Outer Space!,"[1] so like "Night of the Living Dummy,"[2] it's more a play on words than anything inherently story-related. Now as to whether any nine-year old kid would recognize the reference, I'll leave that up to No of course not.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. Stine somewhat famously writes his books title first. Furthermore, sometimes additional writers were brought in to (presumably) craft stories around these titles.

References[edit | edit source]

  1. A sci-fi horror film from the 50s. Although, the title could just as easily be a reference to It Came from Beneath the Sea.
  2. Referring to Night of the Living Dead.
